How to play

  1. Pick a depth in secret: Add your names (optional) and tap Start. Pass the phone: each of you taps Show and picks Light, Closer or Deep, and it hides right away. The round uses the lighter of the two picks, and the screen never shows who chose what. If you've already agreed, tap a depth directly.
  2. Take turns going first: A seat coin flips to decide who answers first. The first speaker answers, then the other shares too, then tap Next — the first speaker alternates each card. Mini dares are small actions; tap Swap for any card you'd rather skip, and swaps are never counted anywhere.
  3. Flip in-sync cards together: On an in-sync card you each pick an option in secret, then both cards flip at the same time: a match is In sync, a mismatch is a New discovery. After each round you can go deeper or wrap up, and a final wrap-up card leads to tonight's recap.

Rules & variants

A round moves in stages: Warm-up covers easy everyday things, Getting to know covers memories, likes and habits, and Deep covers feelings and the future, followed by one wrap-up card. Warm-up and Getting to know have 5 cards per stage, Deep has 4, and you can wrap up after any stage.

There are three depths. Light only deals warm-up cards, Closer goes as far as Getting to know, and only Deep unlocks the deep stage. By default you each choose in secret and the lighter pick wins, so the partner who wants to keep it light never has to say no out loud.

Four kinds of cards: talk cards are answered by both of you; mini dares are small actions, and the ones marked Together are done together, with physical contact limited to hugs and holding hands; in-sync cards offer two or three options you choose privately; the wrap-up card closes the night.

Turn order: a seat coin decides who goes first, then the first speaker alternates every card. Swapping a card does not change whose turn it is. Because both of you answer every card, it feels like a conversation rather than an interview.

In-sync cards are the highlight. You each pick in secret, both choices flip at once, and a stamp lands: In sync for a match, New discovery for a mismatch. Both results carry the same weight — there is no score and no compatibility percentage.

Three ways to change a card: Swap gives you another card of the same kind and depth; a mini dare can be turned into a talk card; and in the deeper stages you get two Something lighter per round, which swaps in a warm-up talk card. Swapped cards never count, and the recap never shows how many you skipped.

When a stage ends, the card flips into a stage recap in place: how many cards you talked about, plus in-sync matches and new discoveries. Continue to go deeper, play another stage at your chosen depth, or wrap up here.

Talk again: tap the star on any card you want to come back to. It appears in the recap and in the rules drawer next time you open the game, and you can delete it there. Everything stays in this browser on this phone.

Content boundaries: all 183 cards are original and avoid exes, money and savings, weight or looks, illness, religion, politics, drinking and sex. That keeps it comfortable for new couples and long-term partners alike.

Ways people play: a Light round while waiting for food on a date; a Deep round on a quiet night in with the TV off; on a long-distance video call, one person reads the cards aloud and you both say your in-sync answer on three; or revisit your saved cards before an anniversary.

FAQ

How do you play a couples questions game?
Pick a depth together or in secret, then take turns: the first speaker answers the card, the other shares too, and you move to the next card. Rounds go from warm-up to deeper stages, in-sync cards are chosen privately and flipped together, and you can skip any card.
What are good deep questions to ask your partner?
Deep questions land better after a warm-up, so start light and go deeper as you open up. On the Deep setting you talk through 5 warm-up and 5 getting-to-know cards before the deep stage, with cards like what has been on your partner's mind lately or something you'd love to do together.
What are fun conversation starters for couples on date night?
Easy, low-pressure questions about everyday life work best on a date — your ideal weekend, a small thing that made you happy all day. The Light depth only deals warm-up talk cards, mini dares and in-sync cards, so it fits a dinner date or the wait before a movie.
How well do you know your partner — how to play without it getting awkward?
Choose privately, reveal at the same time, and don't keep score. In-sync cards pass the phone so each of you picks in secret, then both choices flip together. A match is In sync, a mismatch is a New discovery, and both are treated as a reason to talk rather than a right or wrong answer.
What games can couples play at home?
The best games for couples at home are ones where you talk rather than compete. A round of Couples Conversation Cards takes about 20 to 40 minutes, mixes talk cards, mini dares and in-sync cards, has no winner, and lets you star cards to come back to next time.
What games can long distance couples play on a video call?
On a video call, one of you can host on the phone: read talk cards aloud and take turns answering, read the in-sync options and both say your answer on the count of three, then tap the choices. Agree on a depth directly and wrap up whenever you like.
